Protecting Your Teeth

We offer tooth-colored dental fillings as a quick and easy restoration to fill in an area on teeth that have become decayed. Cavities can infiltrate your tooth and cause it to become weak. Over time, this decay essentially eats into your tooth to reach the inner pulp. Before the decay is allowed to get to this point, we remove it place composite fillings to prevent it from getting worse.

Need a Dental Filling?

If you ignore your cavity long enough, your tooth could require a full root canal! This can cause your tooth to become weakened–which is something you don't want. In order to protect your tooth and get rid of the underlying decay, we recommend having a filling placed with Dr. Vartikar. These simple restorations can be matched to the color of your existing smile and will provide excellent durability.

Who is a candidate for Dental Fillings?

Most of the time you might not even know that you have a cavity until you come in for an dental exam and cleaning! During your visit with Dr. Vartikar, she will look for dark areas or soft spots in your tooth. With X-rays, she can investigate trouble areas to identify cavities.

The Dental Filling Process

If it's confirmed that you need a filling, we'll first start by numbing the area of the mouth needing a filling. Dr. Vartikar will remove the decay from your tooth completely before preparing it for the composite filling. This is done by applying an etching gel into the small hole, washing it away and then packing the hole with resin. The resin is then cured and hardened with a special dental light. We're able to place multiple fillings in the same area to eliminate the inconvenience of needing to return to our practice unnecessarily.

How To Take Care of Your New Smile

Putting in the time to care for your dental fillings can help extend the longevity of this restoration. It can also help support your overall oral health to prevent cavities from invading the rest of your teeth. Regular brushing and flossing can help prevent plaque and tartar buildup around your fillings.

You can also keep them safe by avoiding biting down on hard objects or chewing on ice. If you notice any pain, sensitivity, or discoloration around your filling, get in touch with our office as soon as possible
